Quick Summary
In a post-apocalyptic world, Eden, a former librarian, has spent years surviving alone in a secluded cave, relying on her resourcefulness and love of books. But when she’s forced into the territory of five ex-Army Rangers—Dom, Jayk, Jasper, Beau, and Lucky—her solitary existence comes to an abrupt end. The men offer her protection, but the price is intimacy and trust, which Eden isn’t sure she’s ready to give. As she navigates the dangerous new dynamics of their group, she must decide whether staying with them is truly a trap or a chance at something more.
What I Loved
Distinctive Characters & Voices – One of the best aspects of Ensnared is how well-executed and unique each of the men’s personalities are. In a reverse harem story, it’s easy for love interests to blur together, but Dom, Jayk, Jasper, Beau, and Lucky each feel fully realized, making their interactions with Eden compelling. (Also, in my head, Dom totally looks like Rhysand in military fatigues—minus the wings! 😂)
BDSM Elements Done Right – While BDSM isn’t usually my favorite trope, I really appreciated how it was handled with care in this book. The emphasis on consent and trust within dom-sub relationships was particularly well done, making those aspects of the romance feel thoughtful and intentional rather than just for shock value.
Post-Apocalyptic Survival Setting – I’ve been really into post-apocalyptic fiction lately, and Ensnared delivered on high-stakes survival mixed with steamy, complex relationship dynamics. While I would have liked more specifics about the setting to better visualize the world, I understand that the author (who is Australian) may have intentionally kept it vague to avoid inaccuracies.
What Didn’t Quite Work for Me
Pacing & Initial Disinterest – I almost DNF’d this book, not because I wasn’t into it, but because I got distracted by other books. While I’m glad I pushed through and finished it, the beginning didn’t hook me quite as hard as I expected.
Vague Worldbuilding – As mentioned, I would have liked more details about the location and environment to really immerse myself in the world.
Who Should Read This?
If you love post-apocalyptic romance with strong reverse harem dynamics, well-developed characters, and BDSM themes done right, Ensnared is worth checking out. It’s a great choice for readers who enjoy survivalist settings, steamy tension, and found-family vibes.
Final Thoughts
Despite almost putting it down, I’m so glad I finished this book. The character dynamics, unique personalities, and high heat made for a gripping read, and I immediately dove into Entangled as soon as I turned the last page. Now, I’m eagerly waiting for book three!
